6 Easy Ways To Teach Kids About Holidays Around The World

One of my favorite parts of being a mama has been really immersing the girls in other cultures, cultures that I didn’t know anything about until exploring them with the girls. An easy way to teach kids is through holidays and traditions! Here are 6 easy ways that we explore them from home.

1. First up find yourself a great calendar that has holidays around the world already in it. And choose which ones you’d like to learn about, having one a month can be really fun. We had a very diverse community in NYC and adopted a lot of the holidays through friends, neighbors and teachers.

2. Books! This is an obvious one but finding books at the library, online or adding to our own collection to pull out every year. Age appropriate books are an incredible way to learn.

3. Find fun activities and crafts that give an opportunity for kids to have fun learning about a holiday, bonus points if you can decorate with these crafts! We used our lanterns to decorate for Lunar New Year’s Eve dinner.

4. Watch videos! Epic, Brain Pop, YouTube can all be fun Places to find fun videos.

5. Ask friends. This seems obvious but ask around to see if anyone you know celebrates and what their traditions are. What do they do, wear, sing, eat? No better learning experience than learning from the source!

6. Eat the food! Make or order the foods that are traditionally eaten for the holiday. It’s a fun and yummy way to get the kids excited and honestly my girls try so many more dishes and flavors when it has to do with a celebration.

One of my biggest goals is to travel the world with my girls but until

we can do that safely, we will travel through learning at home! We will be picking 1-2 countries a month to learn about this year and I cannot wait to show you!
